ToaSTY--Friendships that Last Forever
For every Jewish community, one thing is the same. The youth of the Temple are the future of the Temple. Temple Sholom Youth Groups were created for this reason. The goals are to bring together the youth of our synagogue together in an informal, outside the classroom setting, where kids can hang out, be social, and learn something about their Judaism. It’s a way to make new Jewish friends from all over the Philadelphia area.
So what is “ToaSTY?” ToaSTY is the nickname for the Temple Sholom Youth group. ToaSTY is also part of NFTY-PAR, which is the North American Federation of Temple Youth - Pennsylvania Area Region. For all temples that are part of the Union for Reform Judaism, NFTY is the high school age youth program organization, which is divided into regions across North America, and Temple Sholom falls into the Pennsylvania Area Region or PAR. Each year NFTY-PAR holds many events and programs for teens all over the Pennsylvania-South NJ area. This provides our children with SO MANY opportunities to have fun and learn with Jewish teens. These are friendships that last forever.
Also, each year NFTY-PAR holds six regional events in this area or up at Camp Harlam, where over 150 kids will gather for fun and learning. Ask any of the kids who have gone to an event in the past, and they will tell how much fun and what a memorable time they had.
ToaSTY is very active throughout the school year and runs diverse programs once or twice every month. Our events range from our opening event Phillies game to social action projects, where we go into our community and help others who are less fortunate. We have bowling, movies, dinners, and Shabbat services. It is always changing, and it is always getting better.
